The variation consists of the inset circles and their changing thicknesses, along with those of the linear connections. The 3D textile printer really has its effect. There are so many 3D printers in the market, such as 3D color printer, 3D camera printer, 3D photo printers and so on. Solid prints become so popular nowadays.
Rather than moving horizontally, the inset circles move vertically, falling out from each other. The rigid linear connections keep the object horizontally static. The circular connections which connect the inset circles allow movement because they do not intersect anything else. Considering the way the movement occurs, the object at an architectural scale can serve as a chandelier. This retractable movement allows for easier storage at a larger scale. At the body scale, this movement is comparable to that of a crinoline.
In the end the design was not successful, due to a last minute change of piping thickness. The thickness went from 2mm to 3mm, not analysis if the connecting rings were intersecting or not. In the end its seems that durability became more important than movement.
To be successful the pattern could have been less dense with bigger connecting circles to allow movement. This would also give it a more 3 dimensional feel.
Besides being used in art and architecture, 3d printing is also used in archeology to replicate artificats. Also to replicate evidence from crime scenes.
